The format of an SPF record is extremely important! Minor typos in the record will cause the record to fail to validate. This often causes recipients to reject the email outright!
A common error is including a space in a section (e.g.
ip4: 126.96.36.199instead of
ip4:188.8.131.52). You should always use an online SPF record validator before setting it.
SPF records must include all mail servers that send email from that domain. It is easy to forget that there's a third-party service (like Mailchimp, or an application) sending on behalf of your domain. Always check that you know all of the services sending emails before setting a record.
Setting a SPF record
If you do not currently have an SPF record (and only send email via OneNet), set the SPF/TXT record as:
v=spf1 include:spf.onenet.co.nz -all
If you already have an SPF record, you can add the below into your existing SPF/TXT record:
During the migration period, please add OneNet’s servers to your existing SPF record to ensure that there is no interruption to mail flow.
